TrendSpider vs Chat·Backtest
TrendSpider is a subscription platform for active traders combining automated technical charting, market scanning, a no-code Strategy Tester, machine-learning signal training, and cloud alerts and trading bots. A backtested strategy can be deployed as a bot that forward-tests on live data or routes real orders.
Everything below about TrendSpider was read from their own site on August 6, 2026, and every row links its source. Pricing and features change — if you find something out of date here, tell us and we’ll fix it.
Feature by feature
| Feature | TrendSpider | Chat·Backtest |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An all-in-one technical analysis and trading platform, positioned as "the AI-Powered Super Platform for Active Investors", combining charting, scanning, machine learning and pattern recognition with over 190 indicators. (source) | An AI strategy lab. Describe a strategy in plain English, get exact inspectable rules, and run them on about two decades of data. We are not a broker and not a charting platform. |
| Building a strategy | "Build strategies using natural language or simple point-and-click menus. Or, optionally, build custom indicators for your strategies using JavaScript." JavaScript is scoped to custom indicators rather than the strategy rules. (source) | Plain English, edited by chat. The rules it generates are readable and exportable — no black box, and no language to learn. The rule grammar is deliberately bounded: anything it cannot express, it cannot run. |
| Backtesting | The Strategy Tester runs entry/exit, take-profit, stop-loss and trailing-stop rules point-and-click, with no code, and multi-symbol testing "on up to 510 symbols at once with a single click". Depth and minimum interval are plan-gated. (source) | Built in and free to start — the first backtest needs no signup. Daily bars for everyone; intraday timeframes on Pro and above. |
| Markets & data | Backtestable markets are "stocks, futures, crypto, forex, and OTC's", with "50+ years of historical market data, depending on the symbol". Their help center states "You can not backtest indices or options data." (source) | US stocks and ETFs on daily bars, with intraday on Pro and the full US universe plus crypto on Max. This is the narrowest coverage on this page — every product here beats us on markets and data depth. |
| Forward testing | Yes, and the rules are frozen at deployment: creating a bot "will clone and lock the particular strategy that has been used... You cannot edit this strategy and it will be in the read-only mode." Changing the logic requires a new bot. (source) | Freeze a strategy and deploy it. The spec is hashed at deploy and the store rejects edits to it; a daily worker replays the frozen rules on closed candles and appends the result. |
| Public track record | No TrendSpider documentation we read describes publishing a bot's live track record, or any third-party verification of forward-test results. The bot status view exposes recent signals to the account owner. Strategies can be shared by link or published to their Store. (source) | A public, append-only ledger. Backtest and forward curves sit side by side and are never merged, a revised strategy starts a new record at zero, and strategies that lose stay on the board. |
| Live trading | Yes. Strategies "can function as fully autonomous strategy bots that can buy-and-sell on your behalf", routed through SignalStack and webhooks, with a Beta Trading Widget for in-platform order entry. (source) | None, by design. No broker connections, no order execution, no signals, no price predictions. The exports exist so you can wire that up elsewhere yourself. |
| Export / portability | Backtest results export to CSV or TSV via "Download Test Results". Strategies are shared by public link, email invite or Store publication; recipients import into a TrendSpider account rather than leaving with a runnable file. (source) | The full spec as JSON plus a runnable Python file, on every plan including free. It is your strategy, not ours to hold. |
| Free tier | None. There is no $0 plan, and even the trial carries a one-time fee: "Take TrendSpider on a 14-Day Test Drive. Start a low-cost trial (one-time fee)". Trial fees are non-refundable. (source) | First backtest with no signup. A free account adds daily-timeframe runs, chat edits, exports and one public deployment — no intraday, no crypto, 10 symbols per run. |

What TrendSpider does better
- TrendSpider freezes forward tests too — creating a bot "will clone and lock" the strategy in read-only mode. That is the same discipline this site is built around, applied to a much bigger platform. We are not the only ones who do this; what differs is that our frozen record is public and append-only.
- Live bots that buy and sell in your own connected brokerage account, plus cloud alerts that run whether or not you are logged in.
- Automated charting with 190+ indicators, real-time scanners, an ML lab for training bespoke signals, and coverage of futures, forex and OTC that we do not have.
- Multi-symbol backtesting on up to 510 symbols at once, 1-minute intraday backtests on higher tiers, and 50+ years of history depending on the symbol.
- A moderated strategy Store where other traders publish their rules.
The part that is actually different
Every product on this page can produce a backtest, and a backtest is worth having — it kills bad ideas cheaply and shows you how a strategy loses. But a backtest is graded on an exam whose answers already existed when the rules were written. With enough attempts, random noise produces a beautiful one.
Here, a strategy can be frozen: the rules are hashed at deploy and the store refuses to edit them afterwards. From that day it is scored on data that did not exist when it was written, and the record is append-only. Strategies that lose stay on the board.
That is the difference — not better indicators, and not more markets, where we lose to everything on this list. It is a record that means something because it could have gone badly in public. It is our own database with a spec hash, not an audit: what we can honestly claim is frozen, public, and append-only.
Which one you actually want
Pick TrendSpider if: you want charting, scanning and live bots in one platform, and you trade futures, forex or OTC.
Pick Chat·Backtest if: you want the frozen record to be public and permanent rather than private to your account — and you want to try it without paying for a trial.
